March Recovery Roundup – £2m recovered!

March insights: Recoveries, trends and tips from
Global Telemetrics

With lighter evenings and the reappearance of the sun, spring has finally arrived. Meanwhile, excitement builds as the world awaits the outcome of the premier league, with fierce battles at both ends of the table.

Global Telemetrics continue their own battle against car theft, recovering £2m worth of stolen vehicles throughout March, frustrating thieves’ efforts and contributing to an overall lifetime recovery total now exceeding £221m.

March Recovery Highlights

Most recovered vehicles: Collectively, Land Rovers were our most recovered vehicles throughout the month with models of Evoque, SE, SV and Velar all being recovered after theft. The Toyota Hilux was notably the vehicle we recovered most often in March.

Additional vehicles recovered included:

  • Audi A3
  • BMW X4
  • Ford Transits and Motorhomes
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Kubota U27
  • Lexus RX 450 H
  • Mercedes including G350, GLA and Sprinters
  • Porsche 911
  • Volvo XC90

It’s finally Motorhome weather!

With the emergence of the sun, we will now naturally see a lot more motorhomes & caravans gracing the roadways. Sadly this means theft will increase; Vehicles stolen from storage yards, holidays ruined and loss of significant investment is a sorry trend Global Telemetrics has observed over the years due to the surge in demand for motorhomes & caravans making them prime targets.

Please remember to back your basics and that it pays to invest in security if you are heading out for adventures in the coming months.

Spring in our step – 10 minute recovery!

In Lancashire, our customer awoke to find their Range Rover SV had been stolen from their driveway during the night. A quick call to our secure control centre led to our Repatriations Team being at the location of the stolen vehicle within 10 minutes. Recently we have received intel from our Repatriations Team that Land Rover and Range Rover models are currently being targeted due to a new theft method thieves are employing. This has been a particular problem in the Liverpool and Manchester areas.

Theft methods

Keyless thefts, primarily using relay attack methods, continue to be the most common way vehicles are stolen this month. In addition to this, we are also seeing a rise in burglaries, as well as an increasing number of vehicles going missing due to finance & leasing customers failing to make payments and absconding. A SmarTrack device backed by our Repatriations Team could be the perfect solution to prevent your business being decimated by non payments and runaways!

Hotspots

London was once again the leading area for vehicle recoveries, accounting for 24% of all recoveries, with Tower Hamlets being the most frequently targeted borough. The West Midlands maintained its position in second place. Completing the top three – a ranking no area wishes to achieve – was Thames Valley, a new entrant this month.

Initiate!

On May the 4th, we are sponsoring the second ever Initiate event at Goodwood. Initiate is the brainchild of our good friend Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni. 2025’s event was one of the highlights of our calendar and we cannot wait to be involved again. If you are heading to the event come by and say hello to our team!
