August insights: Recoveries, trends and tips from Global Telemetrics

During August we recovered £1.6m worth of vehicles, taking our all time total to £194m.
August Recovery Highlights
Most recovered vehicles – BMW stole the crown from (Land Rover) as most recovered manufacturer this month with variants of 420i, M2, M5 and X5 all being stolen and recovered. When it comes to a single vehicle, this month the Mercedes Sprinter was our most stolen vehicle.
Other vehicles recovered included:
- Audi – A3, RS5 and SQ 8
- Ford – Kuga
- Kubota – RTV
- Land Rover – Discovery
- Nissan – Navara
- Peugeot – Boxer based Motorhomes
- Porsche – 911
- Rolls Royce – Wraith
- Toyota – Prius and Rav 4
- Volkswagen – Touareg
Drones locate hidden BMW
As you will be aware by now, a huge benefit included when you purchase one of our tracking systems is the support from our exclusive Repatriations Team. This team of recovery agents are available 24/7/365 and will attend every theft reported to our team. In the middle of August, our customer had their BMW M5 stolen and reported it to our Secure Control Centre. Immediately, the repatriation team headed out to the location given by the vehicle’s SmarTrack tracking device.
Regardless of the fact that the BMW wasn’t immediately visible upon arrival, the tracking location data ensured that it was at the location attended; Our team deployed a drone to get a birds eye view of the area and soon spotted the stolen BMW between 2 vans. Whilst everyone worked together, the police then entered the property and recovered the vehicle which had also been put on false plates.
Quickest recovery: 3 minutes
Just 3 minutes after calling our Secure Control Centre, our customer’s Mercedes Sprinter based Motorhome was in police possession. Our team quickly mobilised and passed the location to West Yorkshire Police who were very close to the area and we were able to swoop in and locate the vehicle which had been parked up & significantly damaged. This equals our quickest every recovery time matching with another motorhome which thieves had parked around the corner from a police station!
Hotspots
This month there were 2 clear stand outs when it came to thefts. London & the West Midlands make up just shy of half of all recoveries during August, with South Yorkshire taking 3rd place. Our Repatriations Team have also informed us that Glasgow is a current hotspot for thieves and we ourselves recovered vehicles in the Glasgow area in August.
