July insights: Recoveries, trends and tips from Global Telemetrics

The football season is back and so are the heatwaves, but Global Telemetrics are always hot on the tails of the criminals.

July was no  exception, as Global Telemetrics recovered £1.9m worth of vehicles taking our all time total to over £192m.

July Recovery Highlights

Other vehicles recovered included:

  • BMW X5
  • Ford – Ranger and Transits
  • Jaguar I-Pace
  • Kubota U-17
  • Land Rover Defender

‘No Tag, No Start’ in Action

Our Smartrack S5+ iMOB device, powered by Global Telemetrics, was called into action this month as thieves attempted to steal a customers’ Ferrari Roma Spider. Intruders broke into our customers home and took the keys from the faraday bag they were stored in. Thinking they were onto a winner since they now had the keys, they were still thwarted. This is because even with the keys a vehicle protected with this device will not start unless the card is present!

Thieves were disturbed by neighbours whilst this was occurring so they sadly got away.

Quickest Recovery 8 Mins

When our customer’s Fiat Ducato-based motorhome was stolen during the middle of July, they were thankfully very quick to notice and call our Secure Control Centre. Armed with a crime reference number, our team were able to pounce on the location of the stolen vehicle. Swiftly liaising with police, the vehicle was located and secured just 8 minutes after it was stolen.

Most Interesting Recovery

Many will now have seen Yianni’s video about his cousin’s stolen Mercedes G63 from Heathrow Airport..  Some of our readers this month may well be here because of this recovery.

Thankfully, the vehicle was equipped with a SmarTrack S5 device which led police and our Repatriations Team to the location of the speeding vehicle. Police chased the vehicle and deployed a stinger which finally brought it to a halt. Two thieves were then subsequently arrested. Look out on the Yiannimize YouTube channel for a video all about this theft in the coming weeks.

Hotspots

As we warned in last month’s roundup & in videos on social media, Nottinghamshire has been a hot spot for theft and recovery in July, taking joint top spot for the first time alongside ever present London. At the end of July and into August, Berkshire has been a target for thieves.

Coming Soon

Keep your eyes peeled on TV listings, as at the beginning of October a new series titled Trace, Track, Get My Car Back will air on the BBC. This series looks at car theft across the UK and will feature our teams in action in some of the episodes. We will be sharing more details across our social media channels as we have them!
